Fly-in Safaris - Africa from another perspective!

The top end of the African safari market (fly-in safaris), offer you the opportunity to have a scenic flight and to fly to one or more protected areas. A fly-in safari not only saves a considerable amount of time, but provides the traveller with the added benefit of viewing some of the most spectacular regions of Africa from an aerial perspective. They are generally used for tailor-made private safaris.

The propeller driven air crafts are used to transfer you to one or more Parks. On arrival your driver-guide will be ready to escort you. Some companies offer scheduled flights to some popular safari destinations.

Possibilities:

  • Use a charter flight to have a scenic flight over a region you would like to discover and photograph from a different perspective.
  • Fly to a remote area, difficult to reach by road. Either a one way or a return flight.
  • Fly from one protected area to another.
  • Start your safari by road and fly back or the other way round.

Restrictions:

  • There are strict weight restrictions in place on any itinerary. This is because the air crafts are designed with maximum body and luggage weight allowances.
  • Secondly the air crafts also have physical space restrictions.

For Uganda the following airfields are exist: Adjumani, Bugungu (Murchison Falls NP - south bank), Fort Portal, Ishasha (Southern sector of Queen Elizabeth NP), Kasese (Kibale & Rwenzories), Kayonza (Bwindi), Kidepo, Kisoro (Mgahinga), Mweya (northern sector of Queen Elizabeth NP), Pakuba (Murchison Falls NP - north bank), Semliki.

For Rwanda fly-in safaris are less interesting since the protected areas are only a short distance from Kigali.
